Vlanes (Vladislav Nekliaev)

Vlanes (Vladislav Nekliaev) was born in 1969, in Astrakhan, Southern Russia. His childhood was spent in Chimkent, Kazakhstan. In 1993, he graduated from the Urals State University (Ekaterinburg) with a degree in Journalism. He then became a postgraduate student at the Philological Department of the St. Petersburg State University. From 1997 to 2001 he lived and worked in Athens (Greece). He has resided in Brisbane since 2001. Vlanes recently (2007) completed a PhD in Russian and Translation Studies at The University of Queensland, providing the first Russian translation of the sonnet sequence, The House of Life, by the major Victorian poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882). A significant portion of these translations was published in the first Russian edition of Rossetti's works in 2005 in St Petersburg. A complete translation of The House of Life with extensive commentaries (both by Vlanes) was published in 2009 in Moscow.

Currently, Vlanes is completing a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Greek and Latin at The University of Queensland and working on another long-term project – the translation of all the extant tragedies by Euripides from Ancient Greek into Russian.

He is also a NAATI accredited translator and interpreter.
