I am unravelling
the sleeve of my heart
all the careful business
slipping away
a woman’s legacy
to be always knitting
cable stitched cosies
to wrap eternity in blue
so busy being busy
this plain and purl denial
nothingness is cast off
the toe neatly turned
socks, scarves, woollies
crowd my chest
I slide the stitches
pull the thread
watch the rows
unravel
